Signature rules on common exam forms
| Exam / form | Pixels | File size |
|---|---|---|
| SSC (CGL, CHSL, MTS, GD) | about 4.0 × 2.0 cm (140 × 60 px commonly used) | 10–20 KB |
| IBPS (RRB, PO, Clerk), SBI | 140 × 60 px | 10–20 KB |
| PAN – common agent size | 400 × 200 px | under 60 KB (see PAN page) |
| PAN – Protean (NSDL) | 2 × 4.5 cm at 200 dpi | under 10 KB (see PAN page) |
| State PSC / university forms | varies | often 10–20 KB |
Almost every form wants a black (sometimes blue) ink signature on plain white paper, saved as JPG. Signatures in capital letters are often rejected.

How to use
- Sign on plain white paper with a black pen, and take a photo of it in daylight.
- Pick 140×60 px (banking and SSC forms) or 300×120 px if your form only gives a KB limit, then choose the photo.
- Crop so the signature fills the box with a small white margin. Keep Clean signature on and adjust Remove shadows if needed.
- Check that the size is between 10 and 20 KB and tap Download JPG.
Why signatures are tricky to resize
A signature looks simple, but it breaks most online resizers in two ways. First, the photo of the paper is rarely white: indoor light makes it grey or yellow, and your hand casts a shadow. Squeezed into 140 × 60 pixels, that grey background swallows thin pen strokes. Second, because a clean signature has so little detail, it compresses to well under 10 KB — and forms with a 10–20 KB band reject it for being too small.
This page solves both. The clean filter separates ink from paper using the brightness of the whole image, so it adapts to your lighting. The size step then keeps the file inside the 10–20 KB range, adding invisible padding only when a very clean signature cannot reach 10 KB on its own.
Common rejection reasons and fixes
“Signature size must be between 10 KB and 20 KB.” Use this page instead of a generic compressor; the result is always inside the band, and the button shows the exact KB.
Signature not visible or too light. Use a thicker black pen, sign a little larger than usual, and keep Clean signature on. Zoom in so the signature fills most of the frame.
Signature cut off. Leave a small white margin on all sides when cropping. Long signatures fit better in the 300 × 120 option if the form allows any size.
Background not white. Slide Remove shadows to the right until the paper is clean. If parts of the signature start to disappear, slide it back a little.
Signature does not match. Upload the same style of signature that you will sign on the attendance sheet. Mismatches are a common reason for disqualification at document verification.
Taking a good signature photo
Sign inside an imaginary rectangle about 3.5 cm wide and 1.5 cm high — the same shape as 140 × 60 pixels. Place the paper on a dark table near a window, hold the phone directly above it, and tap the signature to focus. A sharp original means a crisp result even at this tiny size.
Frequently asked questions
How do I resize my signature to 20 KB?
Take a photo of your signature, open it here, crop it in the frame and tap Download JPG. The tool sets the size to 140 × 60 pixels and keeps the file between 10 and 20 KB, which is what SSC and bank exams ask for.
My signature file is only 4 KB. Why, and is that a problem?
A signature is mostly white paper, so it compresses extremely well. If the form requires at least 10 KB, a 4 KB file can be rejected. This tool raises quality and, if needed, adds blank padding inside the JPEG so the size lands between 10 and 20 KB.
What does 'Clean signature' do?
It finds the difference between paper and ink, turns the paper pure white and makes the ink darker while keeping its colour. Grey shadows and the yellow tint of indoor light disappear, so the signature stays readable at a small size.
Can I use a digital signature drawn on the phone screen?
Most exam forms want a scan or photo of a signature made on paper with a pen, because it must match the signature you put on the attendance sheet. Use pen and paper unless your form clearly allows otherwise.
Black or blue ink — which is better?
Black is accepted almost everywhere and gives the clearest result. Some forms accept blue as well. Avoid gel pens in light colours and pencils.
Should the signature be in English or Hindi?
Either is usually fine as long as it is your regular signature and not written in capital letters. Use the same style you will use in the exam hall and on joining documents.
